Though very close to our familiar world, this unique and spellbinding location demands that one spends time there. It seems far from civilisation and is almost like being transported back to pre-history. Here, nature somehow grounds and calms us and reminds us of what’s important by bringing us back to ourselves. On first encountering this place, I was immediately struck by the compulsion to represent its incredible energy and atmosphere with my camera. Years later, this compulsion lingers and still energises me in the same way as my first encounter.
Mouse Wood is a project designed to create engaging, accessible and thought-provoking public art. The project looks to encourage greater interest, knowledge and understanding of our surroundings and how they impact upon us. The project is one in a series that uses nature as its common theme and asks us to consider our place in nature, our connection to it and our connection to each other.
